Musk stated that humanity entered the singularity in 2026

Elon Musk has once again drawn attention to the discussion of technological singularity with his recent statements. He claims that humanity is already on the brink of this stage, and that 2026 will be a turning point when AI will begin to significantly surpass human capabilities. This opinion diverges from that of many experts who expect a similar leap only by 2045.

Musk's statement was influenced by a publication from David Holz, the founder of Midjourney, who noted that modern AI models have helped him realize more projects in a short time than in the previous ten years. In response, Musk wrote on the social network X: "We have entered the Singularity. 2026 is the year of Singularity."
The concept of technological singularity became popular thanks to futurist Ray Kurzweil, who described the moment when AI surpasses human intelligence and begins rapid changes in technology and society that will be difficult to predict and control in his 2005 book "The Singularity is Near: When Humans Transcend Biology."

However, Kurzweil himself has a more measured view of the situation. In his opinion, general artificial intelligence may only emerge by 2029, and full singularity not before 2045. He suggests that by that time, non-biological intelligence will be a billion times more powerful than all human intelligence combined.

Musk's statement has sparked a lively discussion on social media. Users are questioning whether the current pace of AI development indicates the approach of an important turning point, or if this is too optimistic an interpretation. Some commentators received the entrepreneur's words positively, linking singularity with increased productivity and new scientific achievements, while others express concerns about the risks of uncontrolled technological development.

This statement came exactly one year after the remarks made by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who in early 2025 made more cautious predictions. He noted that humanity is close to singularity but emphasized the uncertainty of its consequences.

At the same time, the president and co-founder of Anthropic, Daniela Amodei, stated that the term "general artificial intelligence" is gradually losing its relevance. She explained that this term initially served as a marker for determining the moment when AI could match human capabilities; however, by many criteria, this threshold has already been crossed.
