In its new publication, the agency has prepared a series of recommendations addressed to governments for fuel savings to mitigate the impact of rising energy prices.
Fatih Birol, the Executive Director of the IEA, noted: “The conflict in the Middle East is creating significant challenges for the energy sector, including an historically unprecedented disruption in oil supplies. If urgent measures are not taken, the consequences for energy markets and global economies will worsen.”
IEA has presented ten key recommendations:
- encouraging remote work;
- reducing the speed limit on highways by at least 10 km/h;
- promoting the use of public transport;
- restricting car traffic in major cities through a license plate rotation system;
- expanding carpooling and car-sharing practices;
- optimizing the driving of commercial vehicles to enhance their efficiency through proper loading and maintenance;
- converting vehicles from gas to gasoline fuel;
- using alternative means of transportation instead of air travel;
- cooking on electric stoves or other devices that do not use gas;
- supporting industrial enterprises in transitioning to alternative raw materials to save gas.
