The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic informs about the launch of a number of promising scientific initiatives aimed at the modern development of the country's agricultural sector. Currently, the focus is on updating varieties and adapting agricultural crops to changing climatic conditions.
One of the key projects is the testing of citrus crops in the Batken region. Seedlings delivered from Turkey are currently undergoing the process of adaptation to local climatic conditions. The success of this initiative could lay the foundation for future production of exotic fruits in Kyrgyzstan. At the same time, work is being done in the At-Bashinsky district to increase drought resistance: gooseberry and currant plantations have been planted on an area of 100 hectares, chosen for their ability to provide stable yields even in conditions of water scarcity.
Cereal crops are also receiving special attention. In the Naryn region, trials of a new variety of winter wheat "Steklovidnaya-24" have begun, which was developed to achieve high quality indicators in the harsh conditions of high altitude. These trials are being conducted as part of international cooperation with Russian scientific institutions. Joint research not only allows for the testing of new varieties but also promotes the introduction of advanced cultivation technologies, which is an important step towards the technological development of agriculture.
The ministry emphasizes that these scientific initiatives play a key role in ensuring the country's food security. The introduction of modern, adapted, and high-yield varieties will help farmers reduce risks associated with climate change and significantly increase the profitability of their farms.
