A temporary ban on the export of all agricultural and food products has been introduced by Iran and has recently come into effect. This decision will remain in force until further notice from the government. Concerns have already arisen in Tajikistan, which relies on Iranian food supplies.
According to Iranian authorities, the introduction of this restriction is related to the need to prevent a possible shortage and rising prices for essential goods amid the conflict with the USA and Israel during the war.
Tehran emphasizes that it is necessary to ensure food security in the domestic market and avoid price increases.
Iran is a key supplier of products for Tajikistan, and any change in this flow could seriously impact the country's food security, as noted by local media.
In 2025, Tajikistan imported dairy products worth over $2 million. Among the main products are condensed milk (302 tons), cream, whey (263 tons), butter (123 tons), and cottage cheese.
Fruits and vegetables also occupy a significant place in imports. In 2025, the country imported over 2,600 tons of oranges and nearly 1,000 tons of watermelons.
Popular products include apples (over 2,600 tons), kiwis (1,300 tons), as well as tomatoes and potatoes.
Additionally, Iran actively supplies nuts, including cashews (47 tons), walnuts, almonds, pistachios, and other varieties. In 2025, over 180 tons of nuts were imported from Iran.
Iran is also a significant supplier of sugar and spices. In 2025, Tajikistan received over 3,300 tons of white sugar and a similar amount of confectionery, as well as spices and tea.
Over the past five years, trade turnover between Tajikistan and Iran has significantly increased. In 2025, it reached a record $484 million, which is four times more than in 2021, when the trade turnover was only $121 million.
Escalation of tensions continues in the Middle East, triggered by the Israeli and US operation called "Lion's Roar," which has been ongoing for six days now.
