In Uzbekistan, transfers are now only possible with the indication of the payment purpose.
According to the new rules, the sender will need to choose the purpose of the transfer from 16 proposed categories. This list includes categories such as transfers to relatives, payment for services, debt repayment, charity, as well as expenses for groceries and other everyday payments.
Some commercial banks have already started using this new feature, while others are gradually transitioning to the updated format.
The Central Bank of Uzbekistan noted that this innovation is a technical step aimed at improving the statistics of cash turnover and enhancing transaction processing. At the same time, the information is collected solely within the banks' internal systems and, according to the regulator, is not shared with third parties.
