The Ministry of Agriculture is testing new varieties and implementing modern irrigation systems to increase yield
Idrisov noted that among the main actions is the introduction of new plant varieties and their testing. In particular, the focus is on varieties that are resistant to drought and heat. These species are planted in experimental plots, where their response to drought conditions and high temperatures is carefully analyzed.
He also emphasized that the same plant species can react differently to the frequency of watering: three to four waterings during the growing season yield one set of results, while one to two yield completely different ones.
Last year, tests were conducted on oilseed crops imported from the USA, including the "Montana" variety, which showed positive results. This year, it is planned to increase the area under these crops.
In the republic, more than 300 seeds and seedlings are being tested, among which there are high-yield winter varieties obtained under an agreement with the Russian Lukyanovsky Institute.
At the same time, the adaptation of varieties to local climatic conditions is being carried out, as well as the training and education of young specialists in the field of breeding, and the active implementation of certified seeds.
“The use of quality certified seeds is one of the key factors for obtaining a high yield. We advise farmers to choose proven seeds rather than random ones from the market,” added Idrisov.
In addition, modern irrigation methods such as drip and sprinkler irrigation are being implemented. Experience from the last two to three years has shown that using these systems can increase yields by 1.5 to 2 times. Farmers who participated in a recent agrodialogue confirmed that the best yield results were recorded among those who used drip irrigation.
