According to information provided by the head of the Water Policy and Drinking Water Supply Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Bolotbek Tashtanov, on the radio, the structure of sown areas in Kyrgyzstan will be finalized by 2026. He noted that it is clear which crops will be sown and in which regions.

Tashtanov also reported that calculations of the necessary water volumes are being conducted in cooperation with local administrations and district water management departments, and the water consumption plan for each district is being developed.

If the expected volume of water resources turns out to be below the needs, farmers will be offered to switch to certified drought-resistant crop varieties. Special headquarters have already been established in the regions, tasked with ensuring the even and rational distribution of water resources.

By 2026, 1,500 water measuring devices will be installed, which will allow for more accurate control of water supply volumes and losses, as well as improve management of distribution in the current agricultural season.

According to meteorological data, precipitation levels are expected to be at average annual values. However, Tashtanov warns that the annual reduction of water resources by 30–35% due to climate change creates additional risks for agriculture.

“In this regard, we emphasize the importance of using high-yielding, drought-resistant, and certified seeds, rather than dubious products from the market,” he added.

Additionally, the ministry actively supports farmers in financial aspects and the implementation of modern agricultural technologies. Specialists are ready to visit locations for consultations with agricultural producers.
