On the London ICE exchange, May futures for Brent oil opened at $81.5 but soon dropped to $79.4, representing a 9.02% increase according to trading data.

Last time the price of Brent exceeded $81 was on June 23, 2025, according to TASS. This price increase is linked to the escalating conflict in the Middle East region.

Analysts from the Norwegian consulting company Rystad Energy predicted that the price of Russian oil could rise by $20 per barrel. One of the main reasons for such a sharp increase could be the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz; however, Iranian authorities confirmed on Sunday that Tehran does not intend to close this maritime route.
