The official launch of the digital som in Kyrgyzstan is scheduled for January 1, 2027. Azat Kozubekov, Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic, made this announcement at a press conference held on February 24.
He noted that the law regulating the introduction of the digital som will come into effect on the specified date, allowing its use in financial transactions. Currently, the National Bank, in collaboration with partners, is actively working on the implementation of this project.
The digital som will represent a digital version of the national currency and will be an officially recognized means of payment. One digital som will be equivalent to one cash som. With the support of the regulator, users will be able to recover their funds if necessary.
Additionally, Kozubekov reported that more information about the progress of the pilot project will be provided this year, which remains one of the key priorities for the National Bank.
