Recent reports on social media about an alleged mass infection of cows with foot-and-mouth disease in Kyrgyzstan have caused concern among users. In the comments, some urged to avoid farmer's milk and cottage cheese, claiming it could be dangerous. However, these alarming rumors have no real basis.
The Veterinary Service, responsible for the development of livestock and pastures under the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan, confirmed in an interview with the editorial office of VB.KG that there have been no recorded cases of foot-and-mouth disease in the republic. The agency noted that the livestock situation is stable, and monitoring of animal health is carried out with particular diligence.
As for the videos showing sick animals that are actively circulating among Kyrgyz citizens, they were not filmed in Kyrgyzstan. The agency also emphasized that there are no grounds for concern regarding the purchase of dairy products from local farmers, and information about bans is false. Veterinarians urged citizens to be vigilant and not to succumb to provocations, as well as to refrain from spreading unverified rumors.
