Unpaid leave for workers has left their fate uncertain
At the Mailuu-Suu Electric Lamp Plant, the process of dismantling equipment has begun, as reported by local residents on social media.
The dismantling and removal of equipment have raised concerns among Kyrgyzstanis about the possible resumption of the plant's operations.
The plant, which started its operations in 1964, currently produces various types of glass containers, including bottles, jars, and LED lamps.
Information about the closure of the enterprise and unpaid leave for workers became known during a meeting with the deputy representative of the president in the Jalal-Abad region.
In early January, Deputy Prime Minister Bakyt Torobaev held a meeting with the workers and management of the plant, where he announced the preparation of a resolution for the payment of wage arrears and the ongoing search for investors. All employees were sent on temporary unpaid leave, and those who choose to resign will receive payments in accordance with the Labor Code of Kyrgyzstan.
Torobaev also noted that a working group has been established to restore the plant's operations, and studies are being conducted on diversifying production and opening new directions.
