Uzbekistan has allowed round-the-clock watering of trees with water meters

Changes have occurred in Uzbekistan regarding the rules for caring for vegetation near residential complexes. Based on the presidential decree from February 5, residents of apartment buildings are now allowed to water trees and shrubs at any time of the day. The main requirement for lifting the temporary restrictions is the installation of a water meter.

This innovation concludes years of discussions about watering times. Previously, the use of drinking water for these purposes was only permitted from midnight to five in the morning, which caused dissatisfaction among citizens, as many trees dried up despite extensive efforts, such as the "Yashil makon" program. Violators faced serious fines.

Additionally, the new decree requires management companies to conduct an inventory of all green plantings on the premises of residential buildings. Information about each tree and bush will be entered into the digital system Mening uyim. The responsibility for the preservation of plants now lies not only with utility services and local authorities but also with the Committee for Ecology and the Ministry of Construction.

Government agencies plan significant investments in greening courtyards. In 2026–2027, at least 10% of the allocated funds will be directed towards planting new trees and creating modern irrigation systems.

It is worth noting that the process of easing the rules began at the end of last year. Against the backdrop of deteriorating air quality in Tashkent, restrictions for the private sector and businesses were first lifted. In addition to allowing round-the-clock watering, authorities are also considering the installation of special water tanks near high-rise buildings to reduce the burden on drinking water supply systems.
