The Ministry of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic has issued a comment in response to publications by foreign media that referenced data from analysts at the Brookings Institution. The agency refuted the information about a sharp increase in the import of goods from European countries to Kyrgyzstan, stating that it does not reflect reality.

According to ministry representatives, the actual volumes of trade from 2019 to 2024 are significantly lower than those reported in the press:
The ministry emphasized that the growth is related to an increase in domestic demand, modernization of production capacities in the mining and energy sectors, as well as diversification of imports of consumer goods. However, the absolute volumes of foreign economic activity remain at a low level, indicating modest scales of foreign trade.

Furthermore, the ministry noted that Kyrgyzstan adheres to the principles of transparency in reporting and actively engages in dialogue with European partners.
It was previously reported that as part of a new sanctions package against Russia, the European Union is considering the possibility of imposing restrictions on Kyrgyz banks and the supply of certain products to the country. In particular, foreign publications mentioned a sharp increase in Kyrgyzstan's trade with several European countries, based on research from the Brookings Institution. Economist Robin Brooks from this organization claims that "Kyrgyzstan has become the main artery of European exports that ultimately reach Russia."
