What is planned?
According to the proposed draft, a six-month ban on the export of the specified animals outside the country is introduced, with some exceptions:- transit of animals through the territory of Kyrgyzstan;
- export of sport horses for participation in competitions;
- donation of horses to foreign states, international organizations, or private individuals;
- export of live cattle carried out by the state operator – OJSC "Kyrgyz Agrohholding";
- export of horses by air transport.
Objectives of the ban
The ministry emphasizes that one of the main tasks of the state is to ensure the population has access to affordable food products.Prices for food products continue to rise due to increased demand and shortages of certain categories of products, which affects the domestic agri-food market.In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the export of livestock from Kyrgyzstan. In January of this year, restrictive measures were introduced aimed at minimizing the risk of meat and other livestock product shortages.
The Ministry of Water Resources and Agriculture believes that a prolonged export restriction will create opportunities for increasing domestic production.
