The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic has presented a draft resolution to impose a temporary ban on the export of agricultural animals, including cattle, sheep, goats, and horses. This document is available for public discussion on the official website of the ministry.

What is planned?

According to the proposed draft, a six-month ban on the export of the specified animals outside the country is introduced, with some exceptions:

Previously, in August 2025, the Ministry of Water Resources and Agriculture had already imposed a similar ban for a period of six months.

Objectives of the ban

The ministry emphasizes that one of the main tasks of the state is to ensure the population has access to affordable food products.

Prices for food products continue to rise due to increased demand and shortages of certain categories of products, which affects the domestic agri-food market.

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the export of livestock from Kyrgyzstan. In January of this year, restrictive measures were introduced aimed at minimizing the risk of meat and other livestock product shortages.

The Ministry of Water Resources and Agriculture believes that a prolonged export restriction will create opportunities for increasing domestic production.
