Stricter Requirements for Jewelers in Kyrgyzstan
The authorities of Kyrgyzstan have decided to review the rules concerning the jewelry industry. Government Resolution No. 59, issued on February 4, introduces new strict requirements for workers in this sector.
On one hand, the new requirements ensure greater transparency: companies are now obliged to publish lists of their employees and provide proof of asset availability for registration.
On the other hand, stricter restrictions and controls on the import and export of rough diamonds are being implemented. Jewelry firms are now required to submit an annual activity plan.
The changes also affect retail trade: the sale of jewelry is no longer permitted based on a patent in shopping centers and markets.
An important innovation for consumers is the increase in the threshold for mandatory customer identification in transactions involving precious metals—from 10,000 to 50,000 soms.
If a jewelry company is not actually operating or is misusing its resources, it will be removed from the registry.
The Cabinet of Ministers is confident that these measures will help eliminate unscrupulous intermediaries while maintaining convenience for retail buyers.
