Residents of Afghanistan ask authorities to rein in prices for coal and firewood

The situation in Khost has become critical: this winter, the cost of firewood and coal has reached levels that make heating homes practically impossible for families with limited financial means, reports Amu.tv.

Local residents report that the price for one harvar (approximately 560 kg) of firewood or coal has risen to 10,000 afghanis (about 140 US dollars). In the harsh winter conditions, such expenses become an unbearable burden for most of the population. Additionally, with the rise in prices for coal and wood, gas has also become significantly more expensive, further exacerbating the financial situation of households.

The critical imbalance between the standard of living and income is also a cause for concern. Many workers in Khost earn only 50-100 afghanis a day.

One local resident, who makes a living by working on a bicycle, shared: "I worked all day and earned only 50-100 afghanis. How can I feed my family on such money?" - highlighting the scale of poverty.

Residents are calling on the authorities of the "Taliban" movement to strengthen price controls and stop market speculation. They warn that if the situation does not change, the region may face a serious humanitarian crisis, as many families will not be able to survive the cold winter months without heating.
