The EU plans to impose sanctions against Kyrgyzstan for assisting Russia, media reports.
As part of the discussion on a new package of sanctions against Russia, the European Union intends to activate for the first time a mechanism aimed at countering the circumvention of sanctions concerning certain equipment exported to Kyrgyzstan.
According to the agency's information, this involves a ban on the export of machine tools and certain types of radio equipment to Kyrgyzstan.
The new package of sanctions against Russia is expected to be presented on February 24, 2026, the day of the fourth anniversary of the start of military actions in Ukraine. This was announced by EU foreign policy chief Kaia Kallas.
Suspicions of sanction circumvention have led to companies from various countries, including Kyrgyzstan, beginning to fall under EU and US restrictions. In particular, in October 2025, the European Union added two banks to the sanctions list: "Tolubay" and the Eurasian Savings Bank. Additionally, in February 2025, "Keremet Bank," which had already been included in the US sanctions list, came under restrictions from the UK. Several companies from the Kyrgyz Republic have also been sanctioned.
