The Ministry of Finance of Russia has initiated discussions on a draft law to legalize online casinos, as reported by the publication "Kommersant," citing its sources.

The head of the Ministry of Finance, Anton Siluanov, has sent this proposal to President Vladimir Putin.

According to preliminary data, the new initiative proposes the introduction of a 30 percent tax on income from online gambling, which could lead to revenues of about 100 billion rubles per year for the country's budget.

It is important to note that online casinos are currently prohibited in Russia. Only certain organizers, such as bookmakers and totalizators, are legally allowed to conduct online gambling.

According to information from the letter, the Ministry of Finance suggests considering the possibility of lifting the ban on online casinos, while establishing special conditions. Among the proposed measures is the appointment of an operator to conduct gambling activities by the president's directive, based on government recommendations, as well as the creation of a mechanism for accepting bets through a Unified Center for Accounting Bet Transfers, similar to that used for bookmakers.

Furthermore, the article mentions that online casino operators will be granted powers to combat gambling addiction.
