Trade War. Trump Raised Tariffs on Imports from South Korea to 25 Percent
He accused the South Korean authorities of failing to comply with the terms of the trade agreement signed last year.
According to Trump, the new tariffs will apply to a wide range of goods, including cars, lumber, and pharmaceuticals, considering that the current rate is 15%.
The Korean side, for its part, noted that it had not received official notification of the tariff increase and expressed its intention to hold urgent negotiations with U.S. authorities.
The agreement referred to by Trump was signed in October 2025 and stipulated that South Korea would invest $350 billion in the U.S. economy, part of which was to be directed towards the development of the shipbuilding industry.
The document was submitted for consideration to the National Assembly of South Korea on November 26 and is currently undergoing review. Local media speculate that it may be approved in February.
