The World Bank confirmed support for energy projects in Kyrgyzstan
On January 26, a meeting took place in the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, between the Minister of Energy Talaybek Ibraev and Najy Benhassin, the Regional Director of the World Bank for Central Asia.
The discussion focused on both the current state and future prospects for the implementation of joint projects in the energy sector.
The project for the construction of the Kambarata HPP-1 emerged as a focal point, as it is considered strategically important for ensuring the country's energy security and developing its energy sector. The World Bank expressed its readiness to continue financing this project.
An important aspect of the project's implementation will be the emphasis on environmental and social issues, as well as adherence to international sustainable development standards.
Additionally, the project "Regional Integration and Electricity Trade Program in Central Asia (REMIT)" was discussed, aimed at strengthening electrical networks in the Jalal-Abad region, expanding electricity trade in the region, and enhancing the reliability of energy infrastructure in Central Asia.
As a result of the meeting, both sides confirmed their readiness for open and constructive cooperation for the sustainable development of the energy sector, as well as the implementation of major infrastructure projects and strengthening cooperation in the energy field at the regional level.
Participating in the dialogue were Minister of Energy T. Ibraev, representatives of energy companies, as well as Najy Benhassin, Hugh Riddell, head of the World Bank office in Kyrgyzstan, Stephanie Gil-Praktikis, energy and mining sector manager for the Europe and Central Asia region, and other World Bank staff.
