In 2025, the volume of walnut imports to Kyrgyzstan from China decreased by 32% compared to the previous year, according to data from the General Administration of Customs of China.
In 2024, the country imported 42,200 tons of nuts, but by 2025 this figure fell to 28,700 tons. There is also a decline in monetary terms: the total value of the purchased nuts amounted to $99.9 million, which is 21.2% lower than last year.
Experts noted that the decrease in value was less pronounced than the reduction in volume, which can be explained by changes in market prices. The average prices for walnuts from China during the reporting period were as follows:
In shell: from $1.5 to $2 per kilogram. Shelled (kernels): from $3.9 to $5 per kilogram.
Analysts associate this trend with a possible saturation of the domestic market, an increase in local production in Kyrgyzstan, or changes in trade flows in the region. Nevertheless, despite the noticeable decline in import activity in 2025, China continues to be the main supplier of walnuts to Kyrgyzstan.
