The Ministry of Economy Explained the Reasons for the Decline in Kyrgyzstan's Foreign Trade
In the structure of foreign trade, exports accounted for 18.5%, while imports reached 81.5%. The agency indicated that the main factor for the decline in foreign trade was the reduction in export volumes.
The total volume of goods exported amounted to $2.6 billion, which represents a decrease of 43.5%. Excluding gold, exports decreased by 19.7%, totaling $1.9 billion.
“Gold remains the primary reason for the ongoing decline in exports, accounting for a significant share of 26.3% of the total volume,” the Ministry of Economy noted.
Additionally, reduced demand from key trading partners, such as Russia and Kazakhstan, negatively impacted exports.
“There is also a decrease in the export of investment goods, including machinery and equipment, which significantly affected the overall export volume,” the agency added.
An additional factor affecting trade was the temporary restrictions imposed in 2025 on the export of certain types of raw materials, established by the government to ensure the domestic market has access to essential raw resources. This also contributed to the reduction in export revenue and the overall decline in export volumes.
Imports, in turn, amounted to $11.4 billion, increasing by 0.5% compared to the same period in 2024, the Ministry of Economy reported.
