Ponomarev on food trucks: When a farmer has direct access to the market, prices are always lower

Economist Sergey Ponomarev expressed his opinion on the new initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture regarding the opening of mobile meat sales points at social prices. He noted that this event is aimed at creating an important social infrastructure that will eliminate unnecessary links in the supply chain from producer to end consumer.

According to Ponomarev, such an initiative will bring significant advantages to consumers, especially for those who cannot boast a high income level. "Social prices are of great importance for the less protected segments of the population," he added.

The expert emphasized that this structure will help reduce the distance goods travel from producer to consumer by eliminating intermediaries. This will create conditions for direct interaction between farmers and consumers, which is particularly relevant in the context of affordable meat prices to support vulnerable groups. Ponomarev believes that if the food truck network develops as a full-fledged system, it will increase its attractiveness.

"For example, at fairs, it can be observed that when farmers have direct access to the market, prices are always lower," concluded Sergey Ponomarev.
