A significantly updated all-Russian classifier of professions and positions has come into effect in the Russian Federation. The old list, compiled in 1994, had long lost its relevance and did not reflect the actual employment structure of the population. Now, many specialists who worked in the informal sector have received official recognition, unique codes, and social guarantees.

The reform has affected almost all modern areas of activity. The greatest attention has been paid to digital professions: now SMM managers, copywriters, web developers, and neural network experts are recognized within the legal framework. Special codes have also been assigned to virtual reality architects and usability specialists. This recognition allows for the accounting of their work experience and pension contributions, which was previously problematic due to the lack of appropriate wording in employment records.

Significant changes have also impacted the beauty and service industry. Now, in-demand professions such as fitness trainers, permanent makeup artists, aesthetic cosmetologists, and groomers are registered in the official registry. Updates have also affected the medical field: codes have been assigned to cosmetologists, neuropsychologists, and sexologists, which will help regulate the standards of their work more clearly.

The new classifier records about 5,600 working specialties and over 4,000 positions. The update of the classifier represents an important step towards synchronizing the state system with the realities of the 21st century. Transitioning to modern standards will allow for more accurate statistics collection, the development of relevant job descriptions, and the formation of a transparent personnel policy that meets the needs of modern business.
