Electricity consumption in Kyrgyzstan increased by 7%
At a meeting of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on industrial policy, transport, and energy, Deputy Minister of Energy Altynbek Rysbekov reported that Kyrgyzstan annually produces 14.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, including small hydropower plants and thermal power plants. According to him, the current demand for electricity is approximately 20 billion kilowatt-hours, resulting in a deficit of 4.3 billion kilowatt-hours.
To cover this deficit, the republic resorts to importing electricity. In 2025, supplies were sourced from Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Russia. The Deputy Minister noted that the demand for electricity is growing each year, and currently, this growth rate is 7%, whereas in Russia, this figure does not exceed 1.5%-3%.
