Ban on luxury goods. The European Union is preparing a new package of sanctions against Russia
Finland and Sweden have proposed to include in this 20th package a ban on the export of luxury goods to Russia, as well as on the technical servicing of Russian oil tankers. Additionally, it is planned to reduce import quotas for Russian fertilizers in EU countries.
It is worth noting that luxury goods priced over 300 euros are already subject to a ban; however, elite European brands such as Gucci, Bottega Veneta, and Yves Saint Laurent are still available in Russia, albeit at a high markup. The re-export of these goods is carried out through third countries, including China and Turkey, which creates additional challenges for control.
Recently, as part of the previous sanctions package that was approved earlier, 21 individuals and 42 legal entities were added to the list, including companies from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan. These organizations are suspected of facilitating the circumvention of the imposed restrictions. The EU has prohibited them from conducting any financial transactions with European counterparties and using international payment systems.
New sanctions have also been imposed on the "shadow fleet," consisting of 117 tankers involved in transporting Russian oil.
