In his post on the social network Truth Social, Trump stated: "Given the significant public interest, I am instructing Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and other agencies to begin the process of identifying and publishing government documents related to extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena, and UFOs, as well as all accompanying information concerning these extremely fascinating and important topics."
The President added that this decision was prompted by "the enormous interest in this issue" among the public.
Previously, Trump criticized his predecessor Barack Obama for his recent statement about the existence of aliens, accusing him of disclosing classified information. "He revealed this from classified data... He shouldn't have done that," Trump noted in a conversation with journalists, calling Obama's actions "a serious mistake."
"Aliens exist, but I haven't seen them, and they are not kept in... Area 51," Barack Obama claimed in one of his interviews.
Area 51, located in Nevada, is a secret U.S. Air Force base where some theorists believe the bodies of aliens and debris from alien spacecraft may be stored. However, declassified documents from the CIA in 2013 stated that it was a testing ground for secret reconnaissance aircraft.
Obama also noted that during his presidency, he found no evidence of contact with aliens. "Seriously!" he added in his social media message.
He explained his confidence in the existence of aliens by stating that the probability of life beyond Earth is high, given the vastness of the universe. Nevertheless, in his opinion, the chances of aliens visiting Earth are low due to the immense distances.
When Trump was asked if he had seen evidence of the existence of aliens, he replied: "I don't know if they exist or not."
